The students started shouting slogans "Go back", as the VC started his speech for Republic Day function, to register their protest against him for not protecting students and allowing the police inside the campus on December 15, which left several students injured. Students have since been demanding his resignation.

AMU students alleged that the proctor team manhandled the students and some anti-social elements had also attacked them. The protesting students were idenfied as law student

Ahmad Mustafa Faraz

, and students

Tahir Azmi

and Siddhartha Gulati from Engineering department.

The students claimed that instead of protecting their own students, the proctor team took students away and handed over them to the police.

When the news spread in the campus, scores of students including women students gathered outside the proctor office and shouted slogans, "yeh jo dehshatgardi hai uske peeche vardi hai" (Police terror is behind creating fear among students).

Students’ leaders strongly condemned the university administration’s action against the students and demanded immediate release of the students.

President of Resident Doctors Association (RDA) Mohammad Hamza said that they will organise a peaceful protest march in the evening for the release of students and demand strict action against anti-social elements, who had thrashed students inside the campus.

When contacted, circle officer, Anil Samaniya, said that students were handed over by AMU proctor team. He said that they will be released soon after investigation.
