Agra: A 45-year-old tea vendor was allegedly bludgeoned to death by unidentified assailants while he was sleeping at his roadside shop in Tundla area of Firozabad on Monday morning, police said.
Tejpal Singh, a resident of Ulao village under Tundla, had opened the shop on March 8 near the Jarauli Kala bypass and used to sleep here at night.
Around 9pm Sunday, Tejpal returned to the shop after having dinner at his house and sent his son Kuldeep home. During the night, unidentified persons allegedly hit him on the head with a heavy object, killing him on the spot.
The incident came to light around 6 am Monday when Kuldeep arrived at the shop and found his father lying in a pool of blood.
He immediately informed the police.
Tundla police station SHO Kumar Singh, along with a police team, reached the spot. Circle officer Arun Kumar Chaurasia and SP (City) Ravi Shankar Prasad also arrived at the crime scene to inspect the area.
"The motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained. All angles, including issues related to the newly opened shop, are being examined. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being scanned, and three teams have been formed to crack the case," SP Prasad said.
The body was sent for post-mortem examination.
