Visitors to the Taj Mahal were met with a disheartening sight on Sunday as the Unesco World Heritage Site was shrouded in a blanket of smog due to increased air pollution in Agra, making it barely visible.

The CPCB report said the air quality index (AQI) in Agra was recorded at 149, or "moderate" category, with PM 2.5 remaining a prominent pollutant.
