Student on way to Class 10 exam killed as dumper hits bike

Aligarh: An 18-year-old student was killed and two others injured after a speeding dumper truck struck their motorcycle near the Khair bypass road in the Banna Devi area of Aligarh on Tuesday morning. The students were on their way to appear for a Class 10 examination when the accident occurred, police said.The victim, Sunni Baghel, died on the spot after his head was crushed under the truck's tyre. The other injured students, Lakki Kumar and Netik Kumar, are undergoing treatment. All three were residents of the Ramnagar area, under the jurisdiction of the Banna Devi police station.Following the accident, the dumper driver allegedly tried to flee with the vehicle but abandoned it and escaped when locals surrounded him. The incident sparked outrage among residents and students, who gathered at the scene, staged a dharna and blocked the road, demanding action against the driver and stricter enforcement against reckless heavy vehicles. During the protest, an angry man attempted to set the dumper on fire, but onlookers intervened to prevent the situation from escalating.Deputy superintendent of police Dhananjay Singh said, "After receiving information about the commotion, a team went to the spot, brought the situation under control and sent the injured to the hospital. The protesters were pacified after being assured that action would be taken in the matter."Rajeev Kumar, SHO of Bhabanandevi police station, added, "A case will be registered once a complaint is filed. A team has been deployed to arrest the absconding driver."
