Samajwadi party leader Rakesh Yadav

was allegedly shot dead by two

bike-borne assailants

Harduaganj area of Aligarh

on late Tuesday night.

Yadav, a property dealer and party’s in-charge of

Baroli assembly constituency

, was shot at point blank range while he was on his way home in Ahir Pada area. The incident occurred around 10:30 pm, just about 70-80 meters away from his house, said police.

SSP Aligarh Aakash Kulhari told TOI that a case of murder has been registered against four persons, Subhash Yadav, former Chairman from Samajwadi party and three others - Sonu, Kuldeep, and Ravi on the basis of a complaint given by deceased’s family members. However, no arrest has been made so far.

According to sources, one of the suspects, Subhash Yadav, had fallen out with the deceased, ever since the party had given a ticket to Rakesh’s elder brother, Pratap Yadav, for contesting chairman’s election in Aligarh in December 2017. Subhash contested elections as an independent after the party refused to field him. However, both had lost the elections.

Police said that further investigations are on and all possible angles are being looked into.
