Agra: Agra residents will shortly be able to obtain birth and death certificates from the office of the medical superintendent at SN Medical College. At present, citizens have to apply for these certificates at the office of the municipal corporation, even for those births and deaths which are registered at the hospital, making it a long and cumbersome process. The services at the hospital will be free of cost, officials said.
According to a source at SNMC, birth and death certificates can be obtained directly by applicants from the hospital under the civil registration system initiative of the central government.
“Certificates of both kinds will be given only for those births or deaths which will be registered at SNMC. Prior to this, all records pertaining to births and deaths were sent to the municipal corporation’s office and people had to apply for them there,” the source added.
According to officials, those who apply for the certificates will have to provide their personal contact details in the application form, after which they will be updated about the progress of their application via SMS. Other information regarding the registration and documentation process will also be provided via messaging services.
“The facility will shortly be made available for all applicants, provided the births or deaths of their kin are registered at SNMC,” said Dr Himanshu Yadav, superintendent-in-chief at the hospital, talking to TOI.
