AGRA: A senior sale tax officer posted in Agra was suspended after, a video of him allegedly slapping a rickshaw puller in broad-day light went viral across state.
The incident which took place on Friday morning in Lohamandi area, when a rickshaw puller Jitender brushed against the blue beacon car of commercial tax officer (CTO) D K Singh. Infuriated with the incident, Singh, allegedly slapped the rickshaw puller for several times on road, while bystanders were shooting the entire incidents in their camera enabled smart phones.
The incident was posted on Facebook which drew sharp flakes from people across the country.
On Saturday, officer D K Singh was suspended by state sale tax commissioner Mukesh Kumar Meshram.
Speak to TOI, Meshram said, "An officer should maintain decorum no matter how grave a situation is. Slapping a poor rickshaw puller in public for merely brushing a car tarnishes an image of government which is trying its best to connect with people for their betterment."
"Officer Singh's act does not comply with the standards of decorum maintained by government officials," he added.
Earlier in the morning, talking to TOI, station in-charge of Lohamandi police station, Satyapal Singh said, "CTO D K Singh and the rickshaw puller had come to a comprised and gave written statement that neither of them want to register any kind of complaint against each other for what happened."
Now it will be interesting to see, whether CTO D K Singh will file complaint against the poor rickshaw puller to avenge for being suspended or would accept his misconduct.
