AGRA: Uttar Pradesh government has decided to rename the
Sainik School
in
Mainpuri
after the country's first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General
Bipin Rawat, who died in a chopper crash recently.
In a tweet, chief minister
Yogi Adityanath wrote: “As a homage to the great son of India, General Bipin Rawat ji, who laid down his life in the service of the country, the Sainik School in Mainpuri district is being renamed General Bipin Rawat Sainik School."
Earlier, the CM office had tweeted: “Amar shaheed Gen Bipin
Rawat ko samarpit yeh school yuvao ko satat
prerna pradan karne
wala hoga
(Youth will get motivation from the school dedicated to
Gen Bipin
Rawat)."
The decision comes a day after the investigation committee probing the helicopter crash reportedly ruled out any possibility of technical snag or sabotage in the crash of the Russian-origin twin-engine Mi-17 V5 helicopter that was flying from Sulur air base to Wellington on December 8.
Gen Rawat, his wife
Madhulika and 11 other armed forces personnel died after their military helicopter crashed near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu.
The Sainik School became functional on April 1, 2019.
