Quranic Studies Forum organises lecture on 'Religious Tolerance’
Agra: The principal of Madrasatul Uloom Al-Islami, Aligarh, Tariq Ayyubi Nadwi, spoke about the importance of respecting all religions while delivering a lecture on “Religious Tolerance” organised by the Quranic Studies Forum, K A Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies, Aligarh Muslim University. In India, we are fortunate to have religious tolerance since time immemorial as this country is not only the birthplace of several world religions but it has always embraced new religions, said Nadwi.
Nadwi pointed out that religious tolerance is the crux of the teachings of Islam, as well as other faiths, and it makes people of various faiths, caste, creed, skin colour and ethnic backgrounds to live together.
Nadwi said, “Muslims should imbibe and strive to emulate the characters of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as he was a man of excellent character and above all, a unifying factor for the world. The Holy Prophet taught people to leave wars and live in peace and tranquility.”
Quoting Islamic scriptures, Dr Nadwi said that “if one kills a human being without a reason, it is as if he has killed the whole of humanity”. He also discussed the importance of charity.
Prof Abdur Raheem Kidwai, director, Centre for Quranic Studies proposed the vote of thanks, while Mr Haris Bin Mansoor, Co-Convener, Quranic Studies Forum delivered the welcome address. Arshad Iqbal, Convener, Quranic Studies Forum conducted the programme.
