Agra: North Zone Inter-varsity Cricket tournament began with much enthusiasm at the Willingdon Pavillion of Aligarh Muslim University on Thursday. As many as 75 teams are participating from across North India. The tournament will be played till December 4.
Inaugurating the tournament, AMU vice-chancellor Prof Tariq Mansoor said cricket has been a distinctive feature of AMU since the times of MAO College and its Cricket Club has been the nursery for several outstanding cricketers.
“The club has given this country sports legends like Lala Amarnath and the clubs Willingdon Pavilion has been a witness to many great players,” Prof Mansoor said.
Chief guest, divisional commissioner of Aligarh Ajay Deep (IAS) said the university students should always remember to carry forward the vision of Sir Syed who harped on an overall development of AMU students.
