It doesn’t have the required budget to arrange fodder for animals. On an average, six cattle, majority of them stray cows and ox, are brought for treatment at the centre daily.

As per norms, a L-1

vet hospital

should have at least one physician, a surgeon, an animal conception expert, two pharmacists and four support staff. However, there is only one physician, a pharmacist and a support staff here. The hospital also lacks a proper shelter.

Karbala locality resident,

Shivam Kumar

said, “In the last three weeks at least 12 bovines have died at the hospital. On a daily basis, injured and sick cows and ox are brought to the hospital. They are kept in open and suffer from food and lack of proper treatment. Presently nine stray cattle are lodged at the center. Residents and animal lovers are supplying food and water. We have raised the issue concerning mismanagment at the hospital with higher authorities but no action has not been taken.”

Injured and sick bovines are kept under a small shade. At present, nine stray cattle are undergoing treatment.

Chief veterinary officer of Firozabad district, Jitendra Kumar, said, “A report has been sought regarding the recent bovine deaths. Lack of staff and funds are making operations at the facility difficult. We are pursuing the matter with higher authorities.”

Meanwhile, Dr Arvind Tripathi, the veterinary hospital in-charge, said, “We are facing both funds and staff shortage, and so are taking the help of local residents and animal lovers for cattle fodder. The green fodder supplied by the municipal corporation is not sufficient.”
