AGRA: Former BJP lawmaker S P Singh Baghel approached the police recently after a recent SMS doing the rounds in the city that he and ex-MLA from Shikohabad Hariom Yadav were set to join the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
Baghel, a former MP from Jalesar, met SSP Rajesh Modak on Tuesday to lodge a complaint against the message sender’s name: MD-ANGNWS.
Police said they are yet to file an FIR, but an initial investigation into the case has been set in motion.

Baghel said he got to know about the mischief when he received one such message on February 17.
Baghel said the “totally false” SMS has also started circulating in Firozabad, Etah and adjoining districts.
The former MP, who joined the saffron outfit prior to the 2014 general elections, said such messages were sent to “malign his political image” and was a “part of a big political conspiracy against him”.
“I am a member of BJP and have been constantly working to strengthen the party’s base in Agra and adjoining districts. The SMS stating that I and Yadav are planning to join BSP are totally false,” said Baghel, who has been prone to switching parties in the past. The former legislator has earlier worked for the BSP and Samajwadi Party.

The message also states that Baghel and Yadav would hold a rally on March 22 in Shikohabad to announce this development.
Baghel has categorically denied of any such event. “It is completely untrue and contrary to our allegiance,” he said, adding that such reports have caused him physical and mental harassment.
“We have asked the police to lodge an FIR under provisions of the IT Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code,” he said.
