NCR-based woman killed by partner in Muzaffarnagar; man dies by suicide
Agra: A 27-year-old woman working with a private company in Gurgaon was allegedly stabbed to death by her partner, who later died by suicide, days before her scheduled wedding at her home in Muzaffarnagar's Bhalwa village on Thursday evening, police said. Pragati, and Rohit Kumar, 31, were both residents of Bhalwa and belonged to the Scheduled Caste community. Rohit worked as a bus conductor. Police said the two had been in a relationship for several years and had earlier worked together in Gurgaon.SP (rural) Aditya Bansal said that Pragati's family was opposed to the relationship and had arranged her marriage to another man. "On Thursday evening, Rohit went to her house. They spoke briefly, after which he stabbed her multiple times with a sharp object, killing her on the spot. He then stabbed himself," Bansal said.Family members and neighbours found the bodies inside a room reportedly locked from the inside. Police were informed, and senior officers reached the scene. Police said the couple were found lying in a pool of blood and no suicide note was recovered from the scene. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination and forensic evidence was collected from the room.
Muzaffarnagar SSP Sanjay Kumar Verma said the case appeared to be linked to a failed relationship. "Prima facie, this is a murder followed by suicide. Family members confirmed that the couple had been in a relationship and the wedding date had already been fixed. A detailed investigation is underway," Verma said.He added that no prior police complaints had been made by either family. "The room was locked from the inside, and we are recording statements of relatives and neighbours to verify the timeline. All aspects of the case are being examined," he said.
