Agra: Police in Muzaffarnagar on Saturday attached properties worth around Rs 15.5 crore belonging to a notorious gangster and his two sons under the Gangster Act. The action was carried out by Ratanpuri police under Section 14(1) of the Act, and the attachment was publicly announced in the village using drums to inform locals.
District magistrate Umesh Mishra had issued the order three days ago after a proposal from police. The accused have been identified as Zahid Ahmed and his sons, Khalid and Amir.
The seized assets include around 35 bighas of agricultural land in Husainabad, Dhanwara and Riyawali villages, a pickup truck and two motorcycles. Police said the properties were amassed using the proceeds of organised crime.
SP (rural) Aditya Bansal said multiple criminal cases are registered against the trio at various police stations across the district. Zahid is named in at least five cases, while Khalid faces nine cases, including one under the Gangster Act. Several serious offences, such as murder, attempt to murder and cow slaughter, are also pending.
Police said a detailed investigation preceded the submission of the report to the district administration, based on which the attachment was ordered. SP Bansal added that similar action will continue against those accumulating wealth through criminal activities.
