Mathura jail inmate stabs two, booked

AGRA: Two inmates of Mathura district jail were attacked by another with a knife at around 6 am on Tuesday. Ashok, the attacker, appears to be mentally unstable, said the jailor. A FIR has been registered against the accused inmate on charges of attempt to murder.
According to jail officials, Ashok, alias Babu, an undertrial who has been in Mathura jail since May, 2018, in connection to a murder case, was peeling potatoes when he suddenly attacked another inmate, Veerpal, who was brushing his teeth.He then attacked another inmate, Bhola, who is serving life sentence for murder. Bhola was saved by his friend, Mubeen, who happened to be offering namaz there.
Bhola sustained injuries on his arm and finger, and was taken to the jail hospital. Veerpal was rushed to a district hospital, where doctors stitched a deep cut on his neck. He is out of danger now, said police.
Talking to TOI, Mathura jailor Arvind Kumar Pandey said that Babu seemed to be mentally unstable. “He is usually quiet, so no one understands his behavior. He was doing his work and suddenly got up to stab two inmates. The matter is being inquired into by police.”
Inspector Dharmendra Dhaiya at Sadar police station said, “A case of attempt to murder has been registered against Babu and we are trying to find out what triggered the incident.”
