Man gets life term for 2012 rape and murder of 14yo girl

Aligarh: A local court in Aligarh sentenced a 35-year-old man to life imprisonment for the rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl in Dec 2012.Additional district judge Anju Rajput on Wednesday held the man guilty of the heinous crime that occurred in a village under the Aligarh district's jurisdiction. Additional district govt counsel Swarnlata Verma said that the court also imposed a fine of Rs 70,000 on the convict.The incident took place on Dec. 27, 2012. The victim's father lodged a complaint alleging that the man (then 21) had been pressuring his daughter for sexual favors. "In the early hours, around 4.30am, the teenager went to the fields to defecate when he, along with his aide, attacked her from behind and raped her. When she screamed, farmers who worked in the nearest field came to the spot, but they threatened them by showing a pistol. Thereafter, chaos erupted there, and before they fled the spot, they stabbed my daughter to death," he said.A case was registered under sections 302 (murder) and 376 (rape) of the IPC. The man was arrested, spent 10 years in jail, and was later released on bail while the trial continued.After examining evidence and witnesses, the court delivered the verdict. The associate of the convict was sentenced to life imprisonment in the same case months earlier, additional district government counsel Swarnlata Verma said.
