Man from Assam tied to a tree & ‘thrashed’ for molesting woman

AGRA: A 28-year-old man from Guwahati, Assam, was tied to a tree and allegedly assaulted for molesting a woman, in her early 20s, whose family provided him shelter for a night stay in their hut.
The incident took place near Mehtab Bagh slum area of Itmad-ud-daula police jurisdiction early on Sunday. Identified as Jalaluddin, the man was later booked under IPC section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty).But, no FIR was lodged against any person who thrashed Jalaluddin for molesting the woman.
Interestingly, station house officer of Itmad-ud-daula, Udayveer Singh Malik, told TOI, “Jalaluddin was tied to a tree by local residents and woman’s relatives so that he does not run away before the arrival of the police team. He was not assaulted.”
“During interrogation, Jalaluddin claimed that while travelling in a train a man snatched his phone near Yamuna bridge railway station. The unknown man ran towards Mehtab Bagh. Jalaluddin too jumped off the train and ran after him. Unable to find the man, the accused took shelter in a local slum dwellers’ hut. But later at night, he tried to molest the daughter of a man who gave him shelter for night stay,” said SHO Itmad-ud-daula.
Officer Malik added that it was difficult to understand Jalaluddin as he spoke only in Assamese. Jalaluddin has been sent to prison.
