AGRA: In an unusual tale of love transcending boundaries, a 30-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh district was arrested in Pakistan for crossing the border illegally to meet a woman he fell in love with on Facebook. The man, identified as Badal Babu of Nagla Khatkari village, was apprehended by Pakistan's Punjab Police on December 27 in Mandi Bahauddin city.

Authorities revealed that during interrogation, Babu confessed to entering Pakistan without valid travel documents, driven by a romantic relationship he cultivated on social media. Despite lacking a visa or passport, Babu’s determination to meet his online lover propelled him to make repeated attempts to cross the heavily guarded India-Pakistan border.

Babu was booked under Sections 13 and 14 of Pakistan's Foreigners Act, 1946. He was presented in court shortly after his arrest and remanded to judicial custody for 14 days. His next court appearance is scheduled for January 10, 2025.

The romantic escapade sparked a broader investigation, with authorities probing whether his illegal entry was purely motivated by love or if other factors were at play.

Back in his hometown of Aligarh, villagers were stunned by the news. “Badal was always a reserved young man. None of us could imagine he would take such a drastic step for love,” said one of his neighbours.
