Bareilly: After threatening to kill self and her 5-year-old son, the pregnant wife of Kripal Singh, the third witness in the Asaram Bapu sexual assault case who was killed last week by motorcycle-borne youths, wrote to chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday demanding arrest of assailants who murdered her husband and Rs 50 lakh as compensation.
Talking to TOI, five-month-pregnant Moni Singh, 38-year-old Kripal’s wife, said, “We want the murderers who killed my husband to be arrested soon.
Besides, the state government should completely waive the tuition fee of my five-year-old son till he completes his education. Apart from free education and health care to both my children, the chief minister should also give us a compensation of Rs 50 lakh.”
She has also asked for arms license for the protection of her family. “If my demands are not met I, along with my five-year-old son, will commit suicide. I have written to the chief minister that the government will be responsible for three deaths,” said Moni Singh, who reiterated the fact that she has no other means of survival after her husband’s death.
The letter was given to the team, comprising senior police officials and the additional district magistrate, who went to meet her on Wednesday.
Moni said her family was unaware of Kripal’s statement against Asaram before his death. “He never informed us that he is a witness in this case. He told me that he was visiting a relative when he had gone to the Jodhpur court to record his statement. We came to know about it through media reports after his death,” she said.
Meanwhile, her family said that they would have asked for his security had they known that he was a key witness in the case. “Since the police knew about it, they should have ensured his safety,” Moni added.
