AGRA: A police raid on a warehouse in Agra has uncovered a large haul of unlicensed Avil and restricted Buprenorphine injections, allegedly intended for narcotic use in Haryana. The Haryana State Anti-Narcotics Control Bureau traced the consignment to suppliers in Agra and Firozabad.

The investigation began on Nov 8, when the bureau arrested two men, Sahil Rathi and Sumit, in Bahadurgarh, Jhajjar district, seizing a substantial quantity of Avil and Buprenorphine injections.

During questioning, the suspects revealed that they sourced the drugs from a contact, Dinesh, in Firozabad. Dinesh was later arrested on Nov 10 and informed authorities that he purchased the injections from one Gaurav Gupta in Agra.

This information led to a raid on Gupta’s warehouse in Nagla Rambal, Trans Yamuna, on the same day. Inspector Balinder Singh and his team, with Agra drug inspector Kapil Sharma, seized 36 boxes of Avil and one box containing 1,500 Buprenorphine injections from a storage facility in the Chalesar area.

Inspector Singh said, “Traffickers sold each dose for Rs 300 in Haryana, combining restricted Buprenorphine and Avil injections for narcotic use, all through clandestine sales.”

Buprenorphine, typically prescribed for severe pain, seizures, and addiction recovery, is a controlled substance that requires a prescription and record-keeping. Chemists are only permitted to stock up to 20 mg.
