AGRA: The 10-day
According to officials, the mahotsav will be inaugurated on February 18 at Shilpgram by UP governor
Talking with mediapersons, Agra divisional commissioner Anil Kumar said a handicrafts fair will be organized, food stalls will be set up and cultural programmes will be organised during the mahotsav. He said about 325 top artisans from different parts of the country will participate and showcase their exquisite works of art.
Wood and stone carvings from Tamil Nadu, bamboo and cane work from north-east, paper mache items from south India and Kashmir, marble and zardozi work from Agra, wood carvings from Saharanpur, brassware from Moradabad, handmade carpets from Bhadohi, pottery from Khurja, chikan work from Lucknow, silk and zari work from Banaras, shawls and carpets from Kashmir and Gujarat, hand-printed items from Farrukhabad, kantha stitch works from West Bengal and more will be on display at the mahotsav.
According to officials, several artistes, including folk and classical, will also be performing at the mahotsav. Popular playback singers Kumar Sanu, Usha Uthup and Ritu Pathak, qawwali singer Altaf Raja, Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi, and Udan band will perform at the seven-day ‘Bollywood night’ during the cultural carnival.
