AGRA:

Governor

of Uttar Pradesh Anandiben Patel, also the

chancellor

of state universities, on Wednesday extended the tenure of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University’s vice-chancellor Arvind Kumar Dixit. The tenure has been extended for the next three months or till the date of appointment of the new VC.

The governor has also extended the tenure of Sushil Solomon, vice-chancellor of Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur for the same duration.

The three-year tenure of Agra university VC was scheduled to end on December 12. However, the three-membered selection committee, which includes a nominee of governor, chief justice of high court and executive council of the varsity, has not yet been able to shortlist candidates suitable for the post of VC.

As per the rule, the selection committee is required to shortlist five candidates suitable to be appointed as the vice-chancellor. Out of these, governor chooses the most suitable.

According to the University Grants Commission (UGC), the VC to be appointed should be a distinguished academician with a minimum of ten years of experience as a professor in a university system or ten years of experience in an equivalent position in a reputed research or academic administrative organization.

University public relation officer GS Sharma said, “Following the extension of his tenure, VC has called for a meeting with all the teachers and employees on December 13. The mega meeting will take place at the JP auditorium.”
