AGRA: The farmers' movement is likely to gain momentum again as Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) general secretary Yudhvir Singh on Friday announced that it will hold a 'mahapanchayat' in Delhi regarding their unfulfilled demands on March 20.
“We want legal guarantee of (minimum support price) for all crops to all the farmers, abolition of the Electricity Ordinance 2020, debt waiver, compensation to the families of the farmers who died in our agitation, and cancellation of cases against protesters,” said Singh about the unfulfilled demands.
He was addressing scores of farmers at a mahapanchayat held in government inter-college ground in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district on Friday. Several leaders from the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) including Joginder Nain, Jagtar Singh Bajwa, Ratan Man, and Ravi Azad among others also took part in mahapanchayat held under the banner of BKU.
Tikait said, “Before coming into power, BJP leaders promised that sugarcane price will be Rs 4.50 per quintal therefore we supported BJP, but they did nothing for the farmers.”
He added, “Our 13-day long protest has ended in Muzaffarnagar. Now, we will resume our protest in Delhi till our demands are met. MSP is the backbone of farmers and farmers want MSP guarantee law to save the future of farming. I urge the farmers across the country to keep their tractors ready.”
