Aligarh: Police here have busted a family-operated drug ring in Quarsi area, arresting a man, his two wives and three sons. The kingpin, 36-year-old Aftab (alias Captain), was apprehended after allegedly opening fire on officers during a Friday night raid.
Aftab allegedly procured cannabis from
Odisha, which his family—wives Gudia (40) and Shahreen (25), and sons Nabil (18), Abdullah (19), and Bilal (21)—helped package into small pouches for local sale.
Officials recovered 39kg of cannabis, ₹1 lakh in cash, two illegal firearms, and ammunition.
The family has a history of crime; Aftab faces four cases, while his son Nabil is named in nine.
SP (City) Aditya Bansal said, “A sustained campaign is underway against the smuggling and sale of illegal drugs, and all those involved in narcotics trafficking are being targeted through continuous legal action. As part of this drive, police teams were working on intelligence inputs on Friday night. During patrolling, police personnel heard gunfire. When officers attempted to chase the suspect, he allegedly opened fire at them in an attempt to escape.”
He confirmed that all six suspects have been jailed under the NDPS Act. Authorities are now invoking the Gangsters Act to investigate the family’s properties and are tracking the transporters linked to the Odisha supply chain.
