Doctor's kidnapping : Mathura police suspends SHO of highway police station, removes another

AGRA: Mathura police on Thursday suspended the station incharge of the

highway police station

and transferred another cop for not registering an FIR in connection with the kidnapping of a doctor for ransom two months ago and for letting off one of the four kidnappers, without registering a case against them. The police have also registered a formal case against the four suspects allegedly involved in the kidnapping.

, the circle officer Refinery Jagveer Singh has also been removed from his post on charges of dereliction of duty. He said though the victim had refused to lodge a complaint of the kidnapping, the concerned police officers surprisingly neither took cognizance of the crime nor registered a case on their own and moreover they let off a kidnapper, who was tracked by then. He said that action was taken when the matter came to the knowledge of senior officials.

Police have also announced a reward of Rs 50K each for anyone providing information of the suspects allegedly involved in the crime, said IG (Agra range) A Satish Ganesh. He told TOI that the case has been transferred from Highway police station to the crime branch for further investigation and Additional SP (crime) will monitor the case.

Dr Nirvikalp Agarwal

was allegedly kidnapped on December 10 and was released after receiving the ransom amount of Rs 52 lakh. He again received a call on January 19 by the kidnappers, demanding another Rs 50 lakh from him.


The terrified doctor, who had refused to lodge a complaint earlier, called the police and told them about the extortion call. Highway police worked out the case and nabbed one of the kidnappers from Meerut and they also recovered of Rs 15 lakh from him, which they reportedly handed over to the doctor. During interrogation, the suspect revealed the names of his three accomplices, who were involved in the crime, said police.

However, the police released the kidnapper after three days of detention without showing his arrest or registering any FIR. When the matter came to notice of senior officials, they inquired the matter and during course of inquiry, action was taken against the cops, who allowed the kidnapper to go scot free.
