They had gathered in Kasganj to attend a wedding of a relative.

On Thursday, members of the extended family decided to go for a holy dip in the Ganga at Kadarganj ghat at Kasganj-Badaun district border under Sikandarpur Vaishya police jurisdiction.

The tragic incident occurred when the victims were taking a dip along with their relatives.

Station house officer of Sikandarpur Vaishya Rajesh Kumar Meena said, “The three were taking a dip along with relatives when they were swept away by the strong currents of the river. The three apparently did not know how to swim. After the incident, local residents dived into the river to rescue the trio but they drowned.”

Police have fished out the bodies of the doctor and the New Delhi-based student from the swirling river waters. However, Rakesh Kumar’s body is yet to be found. Scuba divers of the police are searching for his body,” Meena added. Kumar is said to be married.
