Agra: The driver of a school bus involved in the death of a nine-year-old Class 1 student, who fell through the broken floor of the moving vehicle and was run over by its rear wheel earlier this week, was arrested from Firozabad on Friday.
Narendra Singh had been absconding since the incident on Wednesday, when Naina Singh, a student of a private school, fell through a damaged portion of the bus floor after a jolt and came under the wheels of the vehicle. She was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Etmadpur ACP Devesh Singh said an FIR was registered based on a complaint filed by the girl's family under sections 106(1) (causing death by negligence) and 105 (punishment for culpable homicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The bus involved in the incident has already been seized.
Following the tragedy, transport commissioner Kinjal Singh ordered the suspension of four transport department officials — Neelam, Amit Verma, Sharda Mishra and Shiv Kumar Mishra — citing gross negligence and laxity in the discharge of their duties.
Sources in the department said a departmental inquiry has also been ordered. Deputy transport commissioner (passenger tax) Sanjay Singh has been appointed as the inquiry officer and asked to submit a report within one month.
Police said the FIR, lodged at Etmadpur police station by the girl's father, also names the school manager, Raj Bahadur, who remains absconding.
