Agra: A day after the UP DGP received a report on the Sankalp Anand suicide case from the Mathura SSP, police department sources said the top cop is likely to recommend the state government to transfer the case to
CBI.
“Mathura police has been demanding that the probe in the case of the death of lyricist
Santosh Anand’s son be given to some other agency from day one.
Earlier too, the Mathura SSP Manzil Saini in a letter to UP DGP AL Banerjee had requested transfer of investigations into the suspected suicide case to CBI,” said an official from UP DGP office.
He added that as Sankalp was a lecturer at National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Sciences (NICFS) in New Delhi, which comes under the home ministry, and both the NICFS authorities and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) have already set-up a probe in the matter, the case should be given to CBI.
The Mathura police have so far registered an FIR against 38 persons. Senior home and state police officials are of the opinion that a central agency would be better placed to probe the case, which needs multi-dimensional investigation spread across at least four states, he added.
Talking to TOI, IG (Law and Order) A Satish Ganesh said the Mathura SSP had sent the report to DGP office regarding change of investigation. A decision would be taken after studying the report, he said.
In his last interaction with media when he was in Mathura to lodge FIR in his son’s suspected suicide case, lyricist Santosh
Anand has demanded a CBI probe into the matter. The state government is also contemplating to hand over the probe to the CBI or CB-CID, a state agency.
Sankalp Anand allegedly committed suicide along with his wife by jumping before a train in Mathura on October 15. While the two died, their daughter suffered head injuries. The deceased left an 11-page note accusing some people of implicating him in false cases and, thereby, holding them responsible for the death. He had also accused the former director of NICFS Kamlendra of bungling to the tune of Rs 250 crore. UP cadre IPS, Kamlendra is posted as managing director of the Police Housing Welfare Department in Lucknow.
