AGRA: The government has started an initiative to assess the

hygiene conditions

in each municipal ward across the state and rank them accordingly based on its cleanliness. According to a directive by principal secretary, the

civic officials

of those wards which are ranked in top three will be awarded and officials of wards with poor performance may face action.

The initiative is part of Centre’s Swachh Bharat Mission. The new move is aimed at motivating and create a sense of responsibility among the officials.

According to the plan, a health committee headed by district magistrate will be formed, deputy municipal commissioner Anil Kumar said. “The committee will assess the hygiene conditions in each ward monthly and prepare a report. After one year, based on final assessment, municipal wards will be ranked based on cleanliness. The officials of the top ranked wards will get awards,” he said.

“Also, the officials of the wards with poor rankings may face action. The initiative by the state government will help maintain better hygiene conditions in the city,” he added.
