Child sixth patient to test positive for swine flu at SN Medical
Agra: If you suffer from a cold, runny nose and sore throat accompanied by fever and even body ache and stiffness, see a doctor. It could be swine flu caused by H1N1 virus. A one-year-old boy who was admitted to SN Medical College tested positive for swine flu on Thursday. He has now been kept in the isolation. Two nurses are taking care of him.
So far, 25 patients are suspected to be suffering from swine flu in Agra. Over the past two months, five patients have tested positive H1N1 virus and only one of them is an adult while the others are less than 18 years old. They have all been treated and discharged. The child is the sixth patient to test positive for swine flu.
“The child is doing much better but we have still kept him in isolation. He is being attended by two nurses. The child has been put in the isolation ward where we are not letting his parents or any relative to come in contact with him. After five days, we will let the child come out and check the progress,” said Dr. Prashant Prakash, incharge of Super Specialty Pulmonary Medicine and nodal officer for swine flu.
Doctors have said the blood samples of the child’s family members have been sent for testing.
Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) team will investigate all patients having symptoms of swine flu. Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Sher Singh, has said, “We have adequately arranged for N-95 masks, tablets and viral transport media tubes to deal with the situation. Patients who are suspected to be suffering from swine flu have been asked to wear masks at the time. People visiting them are also given masks and precautionary treatment. They have been told not to go to crowded places. An isolation ward has been opened for dengue and swine flu patients. All suspected and positive cases have been put in that ward with two attendants to take care of each patient. Child patients have been kept in a separate ward since they are easily prone to infections.”
