Chargesheet within 12 days, man gets life term for raping 4yo

Agra: A Pocso court in Firozabad has sentenced a 35-year-old man to life imprisonment for raping a 4-year-old girl in 2023. The court of judge Mumtaz Ali also imposed a fine of Rs 40,000 on the convict. Additional district govt counsel Awdhesh Bhardwaj on Saturday said the case was fast-tracked with police filing the chargesheet within 12 days of the incident.The incident took place on Aug 13, 2023, when the child's father, a labourer, had gone to work at a factory in Firozabad and his wife had gone to the fields nearby to collect fodder. The father told police that when he returned home around 2pm, he found the door locked and his daughter crying inside. When he forced the door open, he saw the accused violating his daughter. The man fled after shoving the father to the ground. The girl's father knew the man as he frequently came to the village to visit his relatives.Based on the father's police complaint, a case was registered under section 376AB (raping a girl under the age of 12) and section 5/6 of Pocso Act. The accused was arrested the same day and the girl was sent for medical examination.During the trial, the survivor also gave her statement before the court. Her testimony, along with medical evidence and witness accounts, led to the conviction.
