Agra: A baby boy and girl, both siblings, were strangled to death by unknown persons in Kasganj district on Sunday. The bodies of the two children — Umang (3) and Palak (5) — were recovered from a corn field in Bhujpura village under Sidhpura police jurisdiction on the same day.

Based on the written complaint of the children’s father Shyam Gopal, police have booked nine persons, including women, for murder.

According to SP Sunil Kumar Singh, “The victims’ father is himself accused of murdering two men and is currently out on bail since December. He believes that his kids were killed due to his rivalries. A police team is investigating the matter.”

Meanwhile, the bodies of the two children were sent for postmortem. The two were said to be missing since Sunday evening. Police have also detained two men in the case, but no evidence has been gathered so far to establish the identity of the killers.

“It’s not yet clear how the children went missing on Sunday evening. All the accused named in the FIR were at home at that time and so it has become difficult to crack the case. We are talking to the family to see if they had received any threat in the recent past,” said an official.

Police said that Shyam Gopal and his two brothers-in-law had allegedly killed two men in 2014 and 2015. “The enmity angle is being probed, but the case does not look simple. There is a possibility of the involvement of a family relative,” the official added.
