Uday Bhan Singh, while the woman SDM, Garima Singh, who was at the receiving end of the legislator’s wrath stands stunned and frozen in a video footage that has now been shared widely on several social media platforms. On Tuesday, Agra’s bureaucratic brass was also stunned by the public slamming of their officer, following which district magistrate (DM) Ravi Kumar NG set up an inquiry into the incident.The incident took place on Monday when MLA Singh had gone to Agra’s Kiravali town to meet farmers protesting against delay in distribution of relief for crops damaged due to bad weather.


Soon, the MLA turned to SDM Garima Singh and started shouting at her. Amid the shouting and sloganeering from MLA’s supporters who stood behind, SDM Singh could be seen standing still and stunned in the video.

In the video footage, the Fatehpur Sikri MLA can be heard berating the SDM and saying, “Aap sarkar ke virudh kaam kar rahi hain…humein dikhaana chahti hain aap SDM hain? Aapko maloom nahi main vidhayak hun? Meri taakat ka ehsas nahi hai? Loktantra ka ehsas nahi hai? Ek naukar… (You are working against the government…you want to prove to me that you are a SDM? Do you not know that I am an MLA? Do you realize my power… Do you know about the power of democracy?… A servant…).”

The subsequent words of the MLA were inaudible due to the slogan shouting by his supporters.

On Tuesday, Agra DM set up an inquiry into the matter, which will be conducted by ADM (administration) Nidhi Srivastava.

When contacted, MLA Singh said that he did not use any “abusive” language against her. “I am an MLA. It’s my duty to speak if the officials fail to implement government policies,” he said, adding that the SDM has not released compensation for the crop damaged due to natural calamities to the farmers.

The SDM, Garima Singh, refused to speak on the issue.
