Agra: An argument over development issues turned ugly here on Thursday when BJP nagar palika corporator Yashpal Singh allegedly slapped an executive officer and then intimidating him with a gun.
Executive officer Ashok Kumar Chauhan alleged that Yashpal Singh is “famous” for “behaving badly with his employees”. Regarding the incident, Chauhan said, “We got into a debate over a civic development issue in Tundla.
He first abused and slapped me, then, he whipped out his gun, fired one round in the air and then, placed the gun at my head. He even threatened to shoot me dead.”
But Yashpal Singh dismissed the charges as false. “How can I whip out a gun when I don’t have one? And if I did fire in the air, someone surely would have heard the gunshot,” he said, adding that he would lodge a counter-FIR against Chauhan for misbehaving and holding up development work in his locality.
The matter got out of control when scores of nagar palika employees gathered outside the municipal body building, raising anti-party slogans and demanding corporator Yashpal Singh’s arrest. The dissenting employees gheraoed the Tundla police station, compelling the cops to file an FIR against Yashpal Singh.
Tundla police station officer Praveen Kumar Maan said an FIR had been lodged against the corporator under Sections 148 (armed with weapon), 307 (attempt to murder), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to public servant) and 353 (assault or criminal force used against public servant). Police have also imposed Section 147 of the IPC (balwa) against Singh for disturbing law and order.
