Begin 2017 on a good note, DGP tells police officials

Agra: In an attempt to start the new year on a positive note, police officials have been asked to meet rickshaw pullers and auto drivers in the city and sensitize the about traffic norms too. The instructions were given out by DGP Javed Ahmad. In an official letter written to all the officers of Uttar Pradesh police, Ahmad has asked the officers to follow this practice from 1st January, 2017.

Focusing on the menace of traffic jams, the DGP has urged the police officials to conduct a meeting at police station level of auto-rickshaw drivers, vans and rickshaw pullers on January 1 2017 and create an awareness among them about traffic rules, such as avoiding over speeding, illegal parking, assuring safe journey for passengers and control over air pollution.

Ahmad, in his letter, has also asked his men to develop and maintain a cordial relationship with the autodrivers and rickshaw pullers in an attempt to turn them into good assets for information gathering. “Make them the eyes and ears of police,” said DGP Ahmad his letter.

Mentioning the two Kairana constables (Shahzad Ali and Dipanshu Tyagi) who nabbed Khalistani militant (Parwinder Singh Pinda) after the latter escaped Nabha jail in November, the DGP said, “Due to the alertness of our men, the Punjab fugitive was caught, which added laurels to UP police, but at the same time there are other officers who have been criticized for misbehaving with civilians in various incidents. We, as one organization, have to work on bringing change in our behavior to deal with people and serve them with unbiasedness.”
