Agra: In a bid to reduce fatalities in road accidents, Aligarh Police have launched a public awareness drive encouraging citizens to assist injured persons during the crucial "golden hour", with a cash reward of Rs 25,000 for those who help save lives.
SSP Aligarh Neeraj Jadaun said that under the Centre's ‘Raah-Veer Scheme', any individual who ensures that a seriously injured accident victim is promptly taken to a hospital will receive a Rs 25,000 reward from the govt, along with a certificate of appreciation from the district police.
"Many accident victims lose their lives due to delays in reaching hospitals. People often gather at the spot, make videos, or wait for an ambulance or police instead of immediately taking the injured to a medical facility. This hesitation costs precious time," Jadaun said.
He added that the initiative aims to remove fear among bystanders and promote the role of Good Samaritans. "There is absolutely no need to fear the police. If you are helping to save a life, you will not face any legal harassment. You can inform the Police Emergency 112 or the concerned Circle Officer after assisting the victim. The verification and formalities will be handled by the district police," he said.
The awareness campaign is being carried out across the district to encourage timely intervention and reduce preventable deaths.
"There is nothing more valuable than a human life. We urge residents to act without hesitation and help accident victims reach hospitals immediately," the SSP said.
