AGRA: Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday took a swipe at Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Jayant Chaudhary, questioning his decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He said that as many as seven seats across Uttar Pradesh were supposed to be allocated to the RLD, while Jayant has opted to join the BJP, where he only negotiated for two seats.

The SP leader was speaking at an event in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district.

The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister also slammed the BJP govt's handling of farmers' demands for Minimum Support Price (MSP).

He said the BJP govt has promised to make India a five-trillion economy, but this will happen only when the farmers of the country are happy. If the farmers are prosperous, the country's economy can become even 10 trillion, he added.

"If Bharat Ratna can be awarded to two farmer leaders, MS Swaminathan and Chaudhary Charan Singh, then why can't a law guaranteeing MSP be enacted?” he further said. The party boss accused the BJP of working for the benefit of a small percentage of the population while neglecting the majority. Yadav said. “The party mostly helps the rich, leaving out most of the country's population. That's how they operate. Farmers are facing threats, with tear gas being used against them. We need laws to ensure farmers get fair prices for their produce.”

The SP chief added, “Don't expect much good from the BJP. They often divide people, create fights, and spread hate just to get votes.”
