AGRA: An Urdu teacher at a government primary school in Akrabad, who made objectionable comments last month on a social media post by a fellow teacher, was suspended by the basic shiksha adhikari on Monday.
The man, Mohammad Ahmad, had criticized his fellow employee, Tahira Parveen, for putting a "tilak" on the forehead of a Hindu officer in Aligarh and posting the picture on social media. The photograph had gone viral.
"The decision was taken after an inquiry, in which it was found that Ahmad's comment on social media hurt religious sentiments," said basic shiksha adhikari Satyendra Kumar Dhaka.
Parveen said she had shared her photograph on a WhatsApp group comprising teachers. One of the group members, Ahmad, took objection to it and derided her for "following the Hindu religion with happiness". This was followed by a series of negative comments against her.
"I did not like it. Since I am a teacher, my first responsibility is to teach humanity but this matter was unnecessarily linked with religion," Parveen said.
Another teacher in the group said, "Inka imaan mar gaya hai (her faith has died)."
"Since I was the only woman teacher there, I was asked to welcome the new block education officer, Satish Chandra Misra, by putting a tilak on his forehead. There was nothing wrong in it," she said, adding that the teachers union informed BSA about the incident.
Ahmad, who is the district president of the Uttar Pradesh junior high school shikshak sangh, said, "I shared my personal views on the photograph, which is my constitutional right."
