NEW DELHI: At least five people were killed and two others injured after a speeding car ran over pedestrians near Agra's Nagla Budhi, close to the Central Hindi Institute, police said on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Babli (33), Bhanu Pratap (25), Kamal (23), Krishna (20) and Bantesh (21). Bhanu Pratap worked as a parcel delivery agent for a private company.
The five critically injured victims were rushed to Sarojini Naidu Medical College on Friday night, where doctors declared them dead, said Assistant Commissioner of Police Shesh Mani Upadhyay.
Eyewitnesses said the car was travelling at high speed, hit a road divider, and then veered off, crushing people standing nearby. Seven pedestrians were struck in total. Rahul and Golu survived and are undergoing treatment.
The driver of the car has been arrested and the vehicle seized. Police are investigating whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or driving recklessly.
