Agra man beaten to death by bro over property dispute

Agra: A 36-year-old man was allegedly bludgeoned to death with an iron rod by his younger brother over a property dispute in Agra, police said on Tuesday.The incident occurred around 9.30pm on Monday in the Bajrang Nagar area under the Trans Yamuna police station limits. Bhura alias Hubbalal and his 30-year-old brother, Satto, had allegedly argued over a 125-square-yard ancestral plot near their home. Family members told police that Satto had brought liquor and food, which the two consumed before stepping out on the pretext of resolving the land dispute.Police said that Satto had allegedly concealed a crowbar and attacked Bhura near the disputed plot, striking him 10-15 times. Bhura attempted to flee and sought help from a neighbour, but Satto allegedly chased him and repeatedly hit him on the head until he collapsed and died on the spot.A police team led by ACP Sheshmani Upadhyay reached the scene and sent the body for postmortem examination. "Prima facie, the murder was triggered by a land dispute between the brothers. Satto is absconding, and police teams are conducting raids to trace him. An investigation is underway," said DCP (city) Syed Ali Abbas, adding that an FIR has been registered under BNS section 103(1) (murder).The DCP said Bhura was a history-sheeter with nine FIRs registered against him, including two for murder. Police said he was sent to jail in 2002 in a kidnapping-cum-murder case and again in 2003 in another murder case. He also faced multiple cases of theft and assault and was last jailed in Aug last year under the Arms Act before being released on bail.According to police, Bhura was also locally known for professing faith in occult practices. He had previously been jailed in connection with the alleged beheading of a buried minor from a graveyard in Foundry Nagar, allegedly on the advice of a self-styled godman.Police said Satto, too, has a criminal record, with two cases registered against him — one in 2016 for molestation and rioting and another in 2024 for assault.
