AGRA: A 28-year-old pregnant woman died during treatment at a private clinic located on Daudganj road under Aliganj police station of Etah district on Sunday.

The victim's husband, Veerpal Singh, claimed that he had taken his wife Vineeta Kumari, who was nine-months pregnant, to a private clinic after she was denied admission at the local community health centre. "My wife was admitted to the clinic on Sunday morning. The owner of the clinic Sunil Shakya administered an injection and intravenous fluid. Later, her condition deteriorated and the clinic staff asked me to bring juice for her. By the time I returned, my wife had died," Singh alleged. Commenting on the matter, chief medical officer Umesh Kumar Tripathi said, "We have taken cognizance of the matter related to the death of a pregnant woman. The private clinic where she was admitted was not registered with the health department. It will be sealed. No complaint has been received regarding the woman denied admission at the community health centre."

SHO (Aliganj) VS Meena said, "Based on the husband's complaint, an FIR has been registered against the owner of the clinic under IPC section 302 (punishment for murder). Efforts are on to arrest the absconding accused."
