AGRA: As a part of green initiative to reduce dependence on paper and promote eco-friendly offices, the ADG,
Agra
zone, has directed eight districts’ police force to reduce dependence on paper and use the alternative digital medium for official work.
If the initiative is adopted in full operational mode, then Agra zone will be the first in the state to promote paperless office.
According to a conservative estimate, nearly Rs 1.8 crore is spent in total by eight districts’ police force on paper, files, folders and other stationery items.
The idea was mooted by IG range, Agra, Raja
Srivastava
to ADG, Agra zone,
Ajay Anand
, and the proposal was accepted.
According to IG Srivastava, “Tonnes of paper is wasted every month in sending orders, compiling data, issuing instructions and other things, which can be easily shared, read and stored via available digital platforms.
“Nowadays, every policeman has a mobile phone and all offices of the police department have computers with Internet facility. So we will use this available resource to cut our dependence on paper.” he added.
ADG, Agra zone, Ajay Anand said, “By next week, we will issue an instruction across all the police offices in eight districts — Agra, Aligarh, Etah, Firozabad, Hathras, Kasganj, Mainpuri and
Mathura
— to reduce dependence on paper by 75-80 %.”
He said, “Instructions on law and order, suspension, promotion, transfer, data compilation, event booklets and others all will now be in digital format and all will be dispatched via official email IDs. It will take time to inculcate the practice, but it will be beneficial in the long run.”
