AGRA: A seven-year-old girl saved her mother's life at Aligarh railway junction in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday by clinging on to her and shouting for help when the woman tried to jump in front of an approaching train.
A govt railway police (GRP) officer said Priyanka Devi was upset with her husband's drinking habits and left home with her daughter Twinkle for her maternal place in Banda.
Waiting for her train on platform 7, she decided to take the extreme step. But her daughter's quick thinking prevented an ominous tragedy. Twinkle immediately held on to her tightly and raised an alarm, drawing the attention of others. GRP personnel soon intervened.
GRP inspector-in-charge Sandeep Tomar said, "The woman lives with her husband in Aligarh's Gabhana area. After Twinkle alerted us, the woman was pulled away from the tracks by sub-inspector Lakshmi Singh and other GRP personnel. Twinkle's presence of mind and courage saved her mother's life."
A preliminary inquiry revealed that Priyanka's husband works at a petrol pump in Gurgaon and allegedly beats her regularly under the influence of alcohol, which left her mentally distressed.
Priyanka has two children -- Twinkle and a 13-year-old son. "We called her family, and she will be handed over to them after counselling," Tomar said.
