Agra: Six women and a five-year-old boy were rescued from a brothel in a joint operation by Agra police and Delhi-based Rescue Foundation on Wednesday afternoon.
Police also apprehended two women for allegedly operating the brothel, along with two customers.
Rescue Foundation counsellor Usha Chauhan said, “The rescued women were earlier exploited in metro cities like Mumbai and Delhi for many years, and later when they grew old, they were sent to cities like Agra.”
“We had received an input from our sources that women hailing from Maharashtra, Bengal and Uttar Pradesh are being kept in a brothel located in Chatta area of Agra. When we conducted a raid with local police, we managed to rescue six women and a five-year-old boy.”
Speaking with TOI, Chatta circle officer Bijendra Singh Tyagi said, “We have arrested Mala of Kolkata and Poonam of Agra for running a brothel in the city and two costumers Sanjau Begh and Rajendar Singh. All the four have been booked under Section 294 (obscene acts) of the IPC.”
The rescued girls will be either be sent to a government-run women’s rehabilitation cell or the shelter homes run by the Delhi-based NGO, he said. Last year, nearly 22 women were rescued with the help of the NGO in Agra.
