3 dead as truck overturns onto bikes in Hathras

Agra: Three people, including a woman and her son, died when a truck overturned onto two motorcycles at Hatisa bridge on the Agra-Aligarh National Highway in Hathras, on Wednesday morning.
Police said that the truck, loaded with apples, overturned while taking a U-turn, crushing the motorcycles beneath it. A crane was used to upright the truck and take out the bodies.
The victims were identified as Reshmi Devi, 65, and her 40-year-old son Vijaypal, residents of Khajuria in Hathras district, who were traveling to Hathras tehsil for work. The third victim was Ramvir Singh, 33, a railway employee from Railway Colony, Mathura.
Hathras gate SHO Shiv Kumar Sharma said, "The bodies have been sent for autopsy. CCTV footage is being reviewed to determine the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary findings suggest the truck driver lost control of the steering while taking a U-turn. The driver has been arrested, and an FIR will be registered based on the complaint received."
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses said the truck driver may have lost control while trying to avoid individuals recording videos on the highway celebrating the New Year.
