Agra: A 27-year-old Army jawan was shot dead in a targeted attack by bike-borne assailants near Munni Devi Cold Store in Kotwali Sadabad area of Hathras district on Thursday evening, police said.
As per preliminary information,
Akhilesh Kumar was posted as driver at an Army workshop in Agra and had recently returned home to Hathras. He was attacked while travelling on the Agra–Aligarh highway after attending a court hearing.
SP Chiranjeev Nath Sinha rushed to the spot and sent the body for postmortem. Akhilesh was taken to district hospital in a critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police have launched a district-wide manhunt to trace the attackers. Multiple teams have been formed, CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined and investigators are questioning the victim's family members while verifying his personal and professional records.
"There is no confirmed information about prior enmity at this stage. However, a possible dispute linked to personal relations has surfaced and will be thoroughly investigated," SP Sinha said, adding that a total of five police teams have been formed to track down the culprits.
