Agra: An FIR was registered against over 100 named and unnamed persons after stone-pelting at the Mursan police station in Hathras in which 26 people, including 12 women, were arrested, police said on Tuesday.
Violence broke out on Sunday evening after a hit-and-run accident claimed the life of a two-and-a-half-year-old child. Several police personnel were injured and property at the police station was damaged during the violence, following which multiple raids were conducted.
Though police detained the accused driver and registered a case against him, a large crowd of angry local residents gathered outside the police station and pelted stones. Senior officials said additional police force was deployed to bring the situation under control and prevent further tension.
SP Chiranjiv Nath Sinha said, "A case under multiple sections, including Section 7 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act, was registered in the matter. Police teams are continuing raids to arrest the remaining accused."
The incident occurred hours after the minor, Yash, son of a local resident, was run over by an SUV in Madhaiya locality of Mursan while he was playing outside his house. He was initially taken to a private hospital and was later referred to Bagla Hospital in the city and subsequently shifted to Aligarh for advanced treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.
