AGRA: At least two people were killed and around 15-20 injured after a private sleeper bus travelling from Kanpur to Gurugram collided with a tanker and caught fire on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad district, police said on Friday.
The accident took place near pillar number 46 in the Matsena police station area when the double-decker bus rammed into a canter tanker. The impact of the collision triggered a massive fire, engulfing the bus within moments.
According to officials, the bus driver and conductor died in the accident, while several passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Firozabad city magistrate Vinod Kumar Pandey termed the incident “very tragic” and said around 15 to 20 people were injured in the mishap.
“A double-decker bus collided with a canter and caught fire. About 15-20 people were injured in the incident. Five people have been admitted to the Trauma Centre, while others have been referred to Shikohabad and Saifai,” he said.
Police and fire department teams reached the spot soon after the incident. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
