2 cops suspended for aiding honey-trap, extortion of Agra farmer

Agra: A sub-inspector and a constable have been suspended for allegedly aiding the gram pradhan of a Mathura village in honey-trapping and extorting a 70-year-old Agra farmer who had recently received Rs 3.15 crore as compensation after his land was acquired by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited, police said.The aggrieved farmer, Jagdish Singh, approached ADG, Agra Zone, Anupam Kulshreshtha, on Wednesday, following which an internal probe was initiated and an FIR registered the next day.The incident took place on Jan 31, when Singh was allegedly lured to Mathura by a woman he had been in contact with for three years. He was taken to a rented room where an objectionable video was recorded, police said.Singh alleged that two policemen — SI Kapil Kumar and constable Rakesh — then detained him till evening and threatened to implicate him in a rape case if he did not pay Rs 5 lakh. He paid Rs 1 lakh and was forced to leave his car at the gram pradhan's house as security for the remaining amount. When the accused allegedly demanded the remaining Rs 4 lakh the next day and threatened to retain the car, Singh approached the ADG.In his complaint, Singh also alleged that the woman and her associate had earlier extorted around Rs 12 lakh from him after learning about his compensation.Following this, Mathura SSP Shlok Kumar ordered a probe and registration of an FIR at Farah police station against five accused — the woman, identified as Sapna; Shyam Jat; gram pradhan of Ol village, Khoobiram; Constable Rakesh; and SI Kapil Kumar — under BNS Sections 127(2) (wrongful confinement), 308 (extortion), and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy).Police said all the accused are currently absconding. Further investigation is underway.
