In west UP, Hindu-Muslim unity under threat: AAP leader Sanjay Singh
Aligarh: Aam Aadmi Party national spokesperson Sanjay Singh who was in Aligarh on Sunday said there was a threat to Hindu-Muslim unity in western Uttar Pradesh where political parties were playing “divisive politics”. In the city to participate in Quami Ekta Sammelan where AAP leaders from across the western UP districts were present, Singh said, “If there is any place in the entire country where there is threat to Hindu-Muslim unity then it is western UP. Both SP and BJP have made it an akhara of communal politics, we have to shut their shops, maybe use Aligarh locks to shut them up.”
Reminding Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party government in the state of its failure to curb riots, Singh said, “There have been 600 riots in UP under Akhilesh Yadav’s regime and every time polls are round the corner the question of mandir-masjid crops up. These things are raised to divert your attention from constructive, developmental politics that focuses on issues like roads, water, education and power supply. AAP is known for its issue-based politics while others rake up caste and community.”
“We will fight local body polls in UP in 2017. For this, there will be work done in building strong booth, ward and city level teams. In times to come, the flag of AAP will unfurl in Uttar Pradesh,” he said.
The party’s decision to skip the 2017 assembly polls in UP was taken at a meeting attended by AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal in July. A senior party functionary had told TOI the decision was taken so that the party could concentrate on the Punjab polls, where its chances are much better.
